Behold the Raliegh Phase 2
This is a stock 2005 Raliegh Phase 2, featuring Manitou MINUTE 3:00 130mm with SPV - Infinite travel adjustment, Manitou Stinger 3-way shock, SRAM X-9 rear derailleur, SRAM X-9 Trigger shifters, Avid Juicy 7 hydraulic disc brakes, Truvativ Stylo Team GXP cranks, Mavic Crossmax Enduro wheels, and Kenda Nevegal 2.35 tires.
Model:
Raliegh Phase 2
Category:
All Mountain Trail
Suspension:
1 through 5 inches front; 5 inches rear
Ideal for:
This bike can handle everything on Galbraith. Seriously. On intermediate trails like the Ridge Trail, it acts like a big eraser, eliminating most trail roughness. And on seriously technical trails like Bob's Trail, it absolutely rocks in the hands of a good, strong rider.
Over all performance:
The performance of the Raliegh Phase 2 is very reminiscent of one of the greatest Galbraith bikes of all time, the 2001 Kona Stinky. The reason? The Phase 2 is essentially a knock-off of the classic five-inch travel Stinky, or the bike that sells today as the Kona Dawg. Except with its wonderfully ballanced Manitou SPV suspension, the Phase 2 actually rides better than Kona's offerings.
Bang for the buck:
This bike delivers serious bang for the buck. Even though it costs almost a thousand bucks less than a similarly equipped Kona, the components are just about all top drawer, and the design is a classic that's ideal for both Galbraith and light duty at Whistler. Pinch me. What's not to like about the Raliegh Phase 2?
The downside:
Well, frankly, just about the only thing we can think of is the Raliegh name, which is about as dorky as Huffy. But hey, we understand the decals come off real easy with a hair dryer, and the bike itself is actually quite handsome, with its polished aluminum frame and classic four-bar walking beam design without the Horst link, again exactly like Kona.
Geometry and sizing:
The Phase 2's head tube angle measures a sweet 69 degrees, and the bottom bracket is a generous 13.39 inches, which is just about perfect for Galbraith. Sizing is full and honest.
Weight:
31 pounds as pictured.
Price:
$2000
