Lotsa New Trail News...

THE VOLUNTEER trail work on Galbraith Mt. is a marvel. Unsung volunteers built and maintain this world-class system of mountain bike trails. There are always new changes being made to the trails. Here are a few of the recent developments...

Rex N. Brainard, the chap who published the brown trail map of Galbraith several years ago, has been busy lately on the south side of the mountain. We recently encountered him snipping away with his hand shears near the bottom of Dan's Trail. Later, we saw signs of his brushing work throughout the at the top of Flying Squirrel, and the sketchy new trail that parallels Dan's Trail. steve2_041700.jpg (29400 bytes)

newstunt_032500.jpg (43666 bytes) This is a new stunt that was recently built on the Upper Ridge Trail. The easy crossing is to the right of the tree; the harder is to the left. Actually, the hardest part is the fact that the logs are loose and can roll around. Meanwhile, there is a new extension on the Lower Ridge Trail that takes it almost all the way to Birch St.

The Big Easy has seen some trail work lately too, including several sections where the trail bed has been shored up with rock and dirt and log breastwork, and a new approach to a low creek crossing.

Most intriguing though, given the above, is the series of logs laid across the trail at the lower end to prevent (or at least discourage) access from off the Supercross Rd, rather than the Tower Rd.
