| Take a moment to remember DANIEL GRAHAM -- husband, father and avid mountain biker -- who died as a result of a fall on Lower Bob's Trail in September 2003, and please ride safely. Donations can be made to the Scarlett and Quinn Graham Fund at Washington Mutual to help Dan's family. |
The Big Heave on Lower Bob's

|
The final drop to the Pipeline Rd. on Lower Bob's, AKA the Big Heave, is a storied finale to a great trail. Tom (top) drops over the log on the rolling line to the rider's right, while Brian airs out the flying line to the left.
|
THE FINALE to Lower Bob's makes a lot of riders start to tingle before it ever swings into view.
It used to be a killer switchback that threatened to throw you onto a collection of groin-height spikes that made wearing a cup a very good idea, but in 2003 it evolved into a fairly straight drop to the Pipeline Rd.
The new Big Heave comes in two flavors with two lines. For those who prefer to drop and roll, there is the very steep, root complicated line on the rider's right. And for those who prefer big air at speed into the abyss, there is the even deeper and steeper line to the left. Both approaches are demonstrated below.
Remember, if you're going to ride the Big Heave on Lower Bob's, wear a good helmet and have your medical insurance paid up. GalbraithMt.com recommends scouting every stunt and obstacle before trying to ride it. Best of all, watch someone who knows how do it before you try.
