New Trail Building Machine!

Trail building machinery has come to Galbraith in a big way with the loan of a $45,000 mini excavator from Doug Salisbury, owner of Fanatik Bike in Bellingham, WA, pictured here on the Tower Rd. across from the bottom of Scorpion. A volunteer trail crew headed by Eric Brown just finished using this shiny yellow tool of destruction to cut a new track for the Luge which incorporates parts of the old Dan's Trail and Flying Squirrel. Two of the volunteer trail builders, Odin and Eric, said the machine allowed them to build 300 feet of highly bermed trail a day, compared to maybe 100 feet a day of hand-built trail. The new Luge is scheduled to open in March. Another machine-built trail is planned in the area of the old Twelve Monkeys. If you're interested in helping, contact Bill Hawk. -- Mongo |
